After attending The National Needlework Association (TNNA) show I wanted to come home and make at least a dozen new sweaters and shawls. The show really got me excited about all the new yarns and patterns arriving for fall. Some of the trends I observed were: lots of wraps and shawls, many with lace patterns; thicker yarns for instant gratification and new specialty yarns. Shimmer is fashionable for fall and Prism has a wonderful new yarn which is both shimmery and soft. Red and gray will be important colors for the fall and we will have lots of shades from which to choose. Cowls which become hoods, as well as long wristlets (fingerless gloves) are popular accessories for the fall/winter. |

Featured Yarn and Patterns
For those of you who like to get a head start on your fall knitting we have already received one yarn and a sample sweater from Berroco. Campus is a bulky tweed blend of wool, acrylic and alpaca. It knits up very quickly on 10.5 needles. This pullover is a great example of the styles to come for fall. Everything has either short or ¾ length sleeves and is worn layered. All of the Berroco books, including Norah Gaughan Vol. 7, have arrived as well.

When Debbie Bliss discontinued her Cotton Cashmere we all mourned its demise because we loved knitting with it. This spring Louisa Harding came out with a DK yarn, called Aimee, which we hope will replace it. It is 90% cotton and 10% cashmere and boy is it soft! As you can see it has great stitch definition. I gave Elizabeth a bag of yarn and asked her to design something for us. The result is this wonderful sweater, featuring a pretty bell pattern at the hem and cuffs. She currently is writing a pattern for this design and it should be in the store soon.
One of the newer features of TNNA is a
cash and carry event where you can
purchase yarn and patterns to produce a sample for the store. This Great Adirondack shawl really caught my eye. It is a semi-circular shawl made of their hand dyed bamboo blend yarn and their sequin yarn. Since the sequin yarn is only used every 10 rows the resulting fabric has just the right amount of glitz. If you are in the area stop by and watch our progress on this.
We just received a wonderful new book, Ori Ami Knits, which features lots of innovative knits from Habu yarns. I am definitely making the Duplicity Pullover which features Habu's Tsumugi silk doubled and has her stainless steel yarn peeking out on the edges. We currently have some of Habu's yarns in stock and are expecting a shipment of lots more in August. |

The color selection and quantities left for Amara and Summer Tweed can be found on our website: Yarn Paradise.
In addition, we have Lantern Moon Sox Stix, dpns for socks, on sale at 25% off. They come in rosewood and ebony, come in a lovely little taffeta bag, and are great for gifts. |
If you were planning to attend this year's retreat, it is full. But we currently have a waiting list, so you may call and add your name if you are still interested in coming.
We thank you for the overwhelming response and are looking forward to it! |
We do have lots more activities coming this year that we hope you can attend.
The Folkmoot Festival will hold one of their musical events here on the plaza of Biltmore Village at 3:00 pm on July 24th. The performing group is from the United Kingdom and their program will feature Celtic, Irish and Scottish music and dances. Be sure and bring a blanket or folding chair to sit on. This is your chance to see a FREE performance and walk around the village and enjoy all the new shops and restaurants.
The weekend of August 7th and 8th is the annual Village Art and Craft Fair on the grounds of the Cathedral of All Souls. This is a chance to buy some great handicrafts and visit our store for bargains. We always set up a tent (weather permitting) with some great sale yarns!
Yarn Paradise is one of a select number of stores which will be participating in Yarns on Stage. We will be getting sock yarn from 10 hand dyers and the skeins will all be released on October 16th. Skeins will come from Dream in Color, Shibui Knits, Alpaca with a Twist, Claudia Hand Painted Yarn, Pico Accuradi Dye works as well as Conjoined Creations, Prism Yarns, Cherry Hill, Twisted Sister and Great Adirondack. Each company will be supplying yarn for 10 pairs of socks and the colors are limited to these preordered skeins. I have seen the color ways and they are gorgeous. You can preview them here at Yarns on Stage.
The Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair (SAFF) where you can buy local yarns and see fiber related animals will be held October 22nd through 24th at the WNC Agricultural Center across from the Asheville Airport. We always have a booth there and hold an Open House on Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
And last but not least we have the date for our Annual Wine and Yarn Tasting. It will be held Thursday evening November 4th at Corner Kitchen. This is always a sell out because you get a chance to sample wine and yarn, eat a special gourmet dinner, show off what you've been knitting as well as come back and shop at the store afterwards. If you want to attend please call us and we will add you to the list.
As you can see, in addition to the arrival of new yarns we have lots going on!
